Sister Lock was born on May 4, 1945 to the late Hio and Irene Thompson.
Mary was a strong woman of faith and had a powerful relationship with God. She was a faithful member at St. John Missionary Baptist Church and Springhill Missionary Baptist Church.
Mary attended school in Levy County then continued her educational pursuits at Hampton Junior College, obtaining her Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education from the illustrious Florida A & M University. Mary's passion for teaching enabled her to have a life-long career in Alachua County, Marion County, and with the Florida Department of Corrections at Lancaster Correctional Institution. After retiring, her love of education and children led her to Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church every weekend to voluntarily teach at the Saturday Academy.
Mary Lock's commitment to community was shown through her numerous affiliations and memberships, most notably, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Les Filles organization.
Through her many endeavors, Mary always set aside time to study the Bible, read, and sew.
Through her grandmother (the late Rosa London), Mary met and married Willie C. Lock in 1970. Married 49 years until Rev. Lock's passing in 2019,
On October 20, 2023, Sis. Lock answered God's call to rest, leaving the next generation to pick up the mantle and continue the legacy.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories: 2 daughters, Cacynthia Lock, Cheryl Lock; 1 son, Eric Lock; 1 stepdaughter, Sandra Dee Gandy (Esau); 1 stepson who preceded her in death, William Grant, Sr.; 3 brothers, Roosevelt Thompson, Joseph Thompson (Pearlie Mae), Michael Thompson; 7 sisters-in-law, Pearlie Mae Thompson, Norma Lock, Walker Mae Lock, Marie Thompson, Betty Thompson, Ann Thompson, Bertha Mae Thompson; 1 uncle, Ruffie London, Jr.; and a large family of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
